PURPOSE:To facilitate an after-treatment of a thermal transfer ribbon requiring preservation of confidential informations, by heating on a passageway a ribbon used for thermal transfer recording, and eliminating negative informations left on the inked side of the ribbon. CONSTITUTION:When a ribbon 5b used for thermal transfer recording is brought to the position of a heated roller 10a, the ribbon 5b is heated by the roller 10a, whereby an ink left on the ribbon as negative information patterns is melted through heating. Next, when the ribbon is passed through the position of a knife edge 11a, the melted ink is scraped off by the knife edge 11a, then drops into a receiving pan 13, and collects in the pan 13. The ribbon 5c thus deprived of the ink is taken up by a take-up roller 8. The ribbon thus taken up has little thermal transfer ink left thereon, and even when a minute amount of the ink is left on the ribbon, informations can not be read therefrom. Therefore, there is no possibility of leakage of confidential informations even when the ribbon thus taken up is discarded intact.
