PURPOSE:To obtain high resolving power, by dividing one cycle of each of the three-phase sine wave signals from a rotary encoder into 12 regions and further dividing each region by utilizing two-phase sine waves changing almost linearily to obtain an interpolation signal. CONSTITUTION:A signal processing circuit receives three-phase signals R, S, T from a rotary encoder and the amplitudes thereof are compared with each other by a comparing means 22 and a region determination means 23 determines which regions divided into 12 at every one cycle said signals are present to output region signals E1-E12. Corresponding to these signals, the first and second change-over switch circuits 24X, 24Y take out one of the respective phase signals and one of the reversal signals thereof and a divider 26 divides the output of the circuit 24X by the output of the circuit 24Y. A result is digitally converted by A/D converters 27, 28 through analogue switches AS1, AS2 and one of the outputs from said converters is inputted to a bit reversal device 29 where each bit is reversed to obtain an interpolation signal. The output of the means 22 is applied to a synchronous pulse generating circuit 25 to obtain forward and backward rotation signals PP, NP.
