The axle for two wheels (4) controlling the direction of a vehicle such as a tractor, trailer or wagon has two tubes (2) connected at their ends by joints (3) to the wheel hubs, and extended telescopically from an outer cube (1). Parallel to the axle ahead of it is a connecting member (5) and behind it another member (6) also with hinged connections (8,10) to the wheel hubs. Spanning the axle are tilting arms (11,13) connected to the parallel members controlling the steering action, also combined with a locking system. Connecting the front and rear ends of the arms respectively are hydraulic cylinders (31,33). Attached to alternate ends of the arms are rollers (21,23) forming locking members on the outer tube of the axle.
