This device for measuring the contour of an object such as a metal sheet T in particular, moving over a table 1 with rollers, along the longitudinal axis of the latter, is characterised in that it comprises, on either side of the table 1, a light source 2 extending opposite a gap between two consecutive rollers of the table, and detection means 5, 6 sensitive to the light source 2, arranged opposite the said source and adapted to measure the portions of the light source masked by the said object when it progresses, means 21 for triggering, at a predetermined frequency, the said detection means 5, 6, and means 22 for processing the data delivered by the said detection means, in order to reconstruct, in real time, the said contour of the object from the data delivered by the detection means and from the triggering frequency of these means. <IMAGE>
