The invention relates to a heat exchanger having a cleaning hatch (register) for a closed- or open-hearth fire. The subject of the invention is a heat exchanger having a cleaning hatch (register) for an open- or closed-hearth fire, of the type comprising at least a horizontal part arranged above the hearth and consisting of two superposed elements 1, 2 of cross-section suitable for defining between them, on the one hand, a plurality of conduits 6, 6' for the horizontal flow of a fluid to be heated and, on the other hand, a plurality of vertical passages 3, 3'; 5, 5' for flue gas (smoke) through the exchanger, the said exchanger being characterised in that the said elements are penetrated right through by a passage 7, 7'; 8, 8' having a substantially vertical axis, independent of the said heat-exchange passages and closed off by a plug 9 accessible from the hearth side of the exchanger and fixed in a removable manner by any suitable means.
