A device for detecting a yarn movement has a yarn guiding unit (6) which smoothly guides the moving yarn (5) and a converter (15) co-operating with the said unit for the production of an electric signal. To improve the signal-to-noise ratio of this type of device, a part (10) moving on bearings relative to the yarn guiding unit is provided, whereby the yarn is guided between the part (10) and the yarn guiding unit (6) on simultaneous contact between the part and the yarn guiding unit, the part being pretensioned with respect to the yarn guiding unit.
