PURPOSE:To improve the settling resistance of the titled wire and to decrease hydrogen embrittlement by preparing the material having specific compsn. in which Si and Cr are combined, O and S are regulated and Ca, Mg, etc., are added and specifying the size of undeformed inclusions. CONSTITUTION:The steel wire material consisting of 0.70-1.00% C, 0.50-3.00% Si, 0.20-0.70% Mn, 0.20-2.00% Cr, <=0.025% P, <=0.015% S, <=0.0050% O, <=0.0050% N, one or more kinds among 0.0005-0.005% Ca, Mg, Ba and Sr and the balance Fe is prepared. Said steel wire material is heated to >=900 deg.C, is thereafter subjected to a patenting treatment such as lead bath at >=570 deg.C and is left or heated in succession because of releasing hydrogen in the steel under the condition that K=tXT/20 is regulated to >=25 where T denotes temp. ( deg.C) and t denotes hour (hr). The material is then subjected to >=55% wire drawing and the size of the undeformed inclusions is regulated to <=20mu, by which the desired steel wire is obtd.
