PURPOSE:To ensure the sure and quick convergence of a tap coefficient by varying the step size in consideration of a system state after changing the coefficient of a multiplication means with a coefficient changing signal. CONSTITUTION:A coefficient multiplier 30 is connected to a tap delay line 10 containing plural delay element 13. Then e(n-1) preceding by a single repeating cycle and stored in a time element part 39 is delivered and supplied to a multiplier 41. The products obtained by the multiplier 41 are supplied to a multiplier 37. The multiplier 30 works so that the squared average instantaneous value of an error is minimized when the step size mu of a tap coefficient (a) is replaced. Thus the optimum tap size mu is obtained for the coefficient (a) of each tap coefficient part 15. Furthermore the tap coefficient (a) of the next repeating cycle is controlled based on said optimum step size mu.
