PURPOSE:To reduce the capacity of an external medium by providing the title system with the fault code of a generated fault and an information extracting descripter table describing a memory block including necessary information for the fault and outputting information in a memory to the external medium on the basis of the description table. CONSTITUTION:When a dump routine is started under a certain condition, the descripter table 2 is read out by a magnetic disk and a corresponding descripter 20 is extracted from the table 2 by using a fault code generated from a computer system as a key. A dump routine extracts the address of a memory block to be adopted and its length from a memory block field 4 defined in the descripter 20 and outputs fault information to the magnetic disk on the basis of extracted information. The dump routine repeats said operation until a memory block field 4 disappears. Since the minimum information required for the generated fault can be outputted to the external, the capacity of the external medium device can be reduced.
