A FILTER ELEMENT FOR FILTERING FLUIDS

The tubular core is closed at its lower end but has a set or perforations which admit liquid to the core to be withdrawn via the upper end of the core. A skirt of fibres depends from an annular clamp so that the fibres hang over the perforations and serve as a filter for liquids flowing into the core. The fibres of the skirt have a uniform orientation and are in close proximity with their neighbours. The filter is used to clean water e.g. for agricultural purposes. The filter is refurbished by backflushing which causes the fibres to separate. (Provisional basic previously advised in Week 8406)
