The incinerating plant described operates with a power-controlled main closed-loop control, to which an oxygen control is associated. The setpoint value for this oxygen control is used in attenuated form if the setpoint is reset to smaller residual oxygen values in the combustion gas, and unattenuated if the setpoint is reset to larger residual oxygen values. In this way, in the first case, an undesirable reduction of the air factor during the transitional state is prevented, which might lead to incomplete combustion, while, in the second case, the air factor is always higher than the most economical air factor. The device that serves to attenuate the setpoint value comprises, for example, essentially a memory unit (23), a resistor (22) and a switch (20), which are installed into a circuit with an amplifier (19) according to the current state of the art. <IMAGE>
