PURPOSE:To permit the prevention of the welding part of a helium outer tube from damage without spoiling the flow of liquid helium necessary for cooling a superconducting field coil, by fitting the helium outer tube to the outer periphery of a coil mounting shaft at both ends and the sentral part of the same tube. CONSTITUTION:A rotor is constituted of a helium outer tube 6, fitted and connected to the outer periphery of a coil mounting shaft 2 at both ends and the central part of the same tube, and an axial helium flow passage 23, provided at the central fitting part between the helium outer tube 6 and a wedge 17. According to this constitution, liquid helium flows from a helium flow passage 22 at the outer diametral side into the axial helium flow passage 23. The liquid helium, from the axial helium flow passage 23, flows into a superconducting field coil through a gap between the wedges 17 and the upper radial holes 21b of an insulating spacer 21 to cool the superconducting field coil 3. The liquid helium, whose temperature has risen by cooling the superconducting field coil 3, flows out to a liquid helium reservoir 15 from the lower radial holes 21a of the insulating spacer 21 through a helium flow passage hole 20 in a slot.
