A pedestrian controlled road roller comprises front and rear sections 1 and 2 connected by a coupling comprising horizontal and vertical spindles 8 and 9. Steering may be effected through an hydraulic piston 11 connected by universal joints 12, 14, between the sections. An engine 15 is mounted on the section 1 and drives one or more hydraulic pumps 16 from which hydraulic motors 17 are driven, the drives to the rollers from the latter including belt and pulley drives 18, 19, 20 and meshing gears 20 and 21. A vibrator in each section comprises an unbalanced shaft concentric with the roller, that, 5, in the section 1 being driven through a belt 24 and pulleys 23 and 25. The drive to the vibrator 6 in the section 2 comprises bevel gears 26 driven by the pulley 25, a telescopic shaft 28 having cardan joints 27, 29 and bevel gears 30 which may, for reverse direction drive, occupy the broken line position, and may be of a different diameter from bevel 26.</p> |
