A pneumatic tyre (11) has in its tread (15) a plurality of main grooves (16, 17) which extend mainly in the circumferential direction and are arranged with intermediate spacing in the axial direction of the pneumatic tyre (11). Each main groove (16, 17) is not interrupted. The angles (A) of intersection between the central plane (12) of the tyre and tangents (L) to each of the main grooves (16, 17) become larger from a run-in end (16a, 17a) to a run-out end (16b, 17b), opening at a tread edge (18, 19) of the pneumatic tyre (11), of the main groove (16, 17). The pneumatic tyre (11) also has in its tread (15) a plurality of indents (21, 22) which extend mainly in the axial direction of the pneumatic tyre (11) but obliquely with respect to the central plane (12) of the tyre and are arranged in the circumferential direction with intermediate spacing. Each indent (21, 22) is inclined in such a way that its opening points forward with respect to the main direction of rotation (Q) of the pneumatic tyre (11). <IMAGE>
