The invention relates to a method and device for determining the thermal parameters characteristic of the transport of energy. In the method, at least one temperature value is measured which is characteristic of an object to be tested and a heat flow of known magnitude is directed in a selected direction onto the object to be tested. In the case of the object to be tested, the effect of the heat flow in the direction opposite to the selected direction is compensated and subsequently the desired thermal parameter is determined as a result of the measured temperature value and of the heat flow. It is essential for the object to be tested to be brought into thermal contact with a sheet which is suitable for measuring temperature, for a heat flow of known density to be generated behind the surface of the sheet in conjunction with simultaneous compensation of the heat flow in the selected direction and in a direction perpendicular thereto, the temperature of the sheet being adjusted to a predetermined value or the generated heat flow being maintained at a predetermined level.
