PURPOSE:To rapidly and stably obtain the high max. coloring density and the low min. image density by incorporating a specified coupler in an inner latent image type silver halide sensitive material which is not previously fogged, and by developing the obtd. material with a low pH, in the presence of a nucleus forming agent and a specified nucleus forming accelerator. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive material is provided with at least one layer of a photographic emulsion layer contg. an inner latent image type silver halide particle which is not previously fogged, and a color image forming coupler mounted on the supporting body. The titled method applies in imagewisely exposing said photosensitive material and then developing the obtd. material with a surface developer in the presence of the nucleus forming agent and the p-phenylene diamine (p-PDA) type coloring developer. The photosensitive material is developed with a developer in the presence of the nucleus forming agent and the nucleus forming accelerator such as a nitrogen- contg. heterocyclic ring compd. shown by the formula at pH of <=11.5, and said coupler has a nondiffusing property and is composed of a compd. capable of forming or releasing a nondiffusing dye by an oxidative-coupling with the p-PDA type coloring developer. Thus, the direct positive color image having the high max. coloring density and the low min. image density is rapidly and stably obtd. by developing at a low pH. |
