PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal transfer film suitable for a thermal transfer ribbon which is free of sticking, free of changes in bleeding condition of additives with time and free of evaporation of the additives in coating and drying steps, by providing a layer obtained by mixing a swellable inorganic laminar silicate, a water-soluble or water-dispersible swelling agent and a water- dispersible resin in specified ratios on one side of a plastic film, and providing a thermal transfer layer on the other side. CONSTITUTION:A layer obtained by using a mixture of (a) a swellable inorganic laminar silicate, (b) a water-soluble or water-dispersible swelling agent and/or a surfactant and (c) at least one water-soluble or water-dispersible resin selected from a thermosetting polyester, a thermosetting acrylic resin and an organometallic compound capable of condensation polymerization, with the weight ratio of (a)/(b) being 1/10<3>-2/1, the weight ratio (a)/(c) being 1/20-50/1 and the weight ratio (c)/(b) being 1/100-5/1, is provided on one side of a plastic film, and a thermal transfer layer is provided on the other side. A thermal transfer film thus obtained is markedly raised in oil evaporation temperature, and is enhanced in adhesion of the thermal transfer layer to a base or a paper. |
