PURPOSE:To simplify and miniaturize a wiping means cleaning the surfaces of the ink emitting orifices of a recording head and to enhance the reliability of said wiping means, by providing a plurality of emitting orifices respectively emitting inks having different colors and a cleaning means for successively cleaning a plurality of said emitting orifices in order from a light color to a dark color. CONSTITUTION:A recording signal is inputted to recording heads 1A-1D through flexible wirings 7 during the scanning movement of a carriage 2 and the recording heads 1A-1D are driven in the timing relating to the position of the carriage 2 to emit ink and recording is applied to the sheet on a platen 6. As one of recovery operations, the wipping operation cleaning the surfaces of the ink emitting orifices (surfaces having the ink emitting orifices formed thereto) of the recording heads 1A-1D is performed and the order of the wiping of a plurality of the recording heads 1A-1D is selected so that the recording head emitting ink having a light color is cleaned at first and the recording head emitting ink having a dark color is cleaned at last. By this method, the color mixture on the way of wiping can be made entirely inconspicuous. |
