PURPOSE:To selectively change image density and color tones by projecting the light reflected from an original via a filter on a photosensitive body and constituting the filter as cells which are colored or decolored by impression of a voltage thereto or the release of that state. CONSTITUTION:The original on an original platen 3 is exposed by an exposing lamp 4 and the reflected light is guided by mirrors 5a-5f and a lens 6 to the photosensitive body 2. The filter A is provided between the mirror 5c and the lens 6. The filter A is constituted of the plural cells 7 corresponding to blue, red and other colors. The cells 7 are constituted of electrochromic (EC) elements. Each of the EC element is formed by sticking a transparent electrode 72a and an EC material 73 to the inner side face of a transparent substrate 71a and sticking a transparent electrode 72b to the inner face of the other transparent substrate 71b. The EC elements are colored or decolored by the impression of the voltage between the electrodes 72a and 72b or the release of that state, by which the image density or color tones are selectively changed and the copying of the image is permitted.
