PURPOSE:To prevent the titled element from the reduction and fluctuation of the threshold of a liquid crystal, and to improve the leading of the liquid crystal and to increase the display contrast of the titled element by forming a transparent electrode on a color filter layer. CONSTITUTION:The color filter layer 16 is formed on the inner surface of a glass display substrate 11 by segmenting the layer 16 into the sections of green 16G, blue 16B and red 16R, and grids such as black masks 17 are formed in spaces between the sections of the layer 16. Next, the plural transparent electrodes 15 are stripe-likely formed on the layer 16 by intersecting orthogonally with the traveling direction of a picture element electrode 12. Thus, the layer 16 does not present between the electrodes 12 and 15, and the applied voltage between both electrodes is held to a prescribed value, thereby resulting in preventing the layer 16 from the deterioration, to obtain a clear color display. And, an orientation film 18 is formed on the whole surfaces of the electrode 15 and the black stripes 17 exposed in one direction. The liquid crystal cell is formed by opposing a display substrate plate 11 and a counter substrate plate 14 through a gap material, and the liquid crystal 19 is injected into the cell.
