PURPOSE:To obtain the titled cation dyeable type polyester, having excellent light fastness, antistatic properties, flame retardance, etc., high whiteness and high polymerization degree with suppressed thermal coloring and decomposition of a polymer, by copolymerizing a quaternary and tertiary phosphonium salts of sulfonic acids. CONSTITUTION:(C) A quaternary phosphonium salt of a sulfonic acid expressed by formula I (A1 is aromatic or aliphatic group; X1 and X2 are H or ester- forming functional group; R1-R4 are alkyl or aryl; n is a positive integer) in an amount of 0.5-10.0mol.% based on (A) a bifunctional carboxylic acid (ester-forming derivative) consisting essentially of terephthalic acid and (D) a tertiary phosphonium salt of a sulfonic acid expressed by formula II (A2 is aromatic group, etc.; X3 and X4 are H, etc.; R5-R7 are alkyl, etc.; n is a positive integer) in an amount of 0.5-10.0mol.% based on the component (C) are added to the component (A) and (B) an alkylene glycol (e.g. ethylene glycol) and polycondensation is carried out to afford the aimed polymer.
