NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I [R<1> is H, lower alkoxycarbonyl or lower alkanoyl; R<2>, R<3> and R<5> are H or lower alkyl; R<4> is H or lower alkyl; R<6> is substituted lower alkyl or aralkyl (substituted group is 1-2 OH); R<7> is OH or -OY (Y is lower alkyl or aryl); n and m are 0 or 1] and a salt thereof. EXAMPLE:(2SR,4S,5S)-5-(L-N-Benzyloxycarbonylnaphthylalanyl-L-nor-leucy l)ami no-4-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxypropyl)-7-methyloctanoic acid isobutylamide. USE:A remedy for hypertension. PREPARATION:A 5-substituted amino-4-hydroxypentenoic acid shown by formula II or a salt thereof is reduced in an inert solvent to give a compound shown by formula I.
