PURPOSE:To allow printing with an insignificant electric powder supply by forming a glazed layer containing a high silicate porous glass consisting of about more than 95% of SiO2 on a ceramic substrate. CONSTITUTION:A glazed layer 12 containing a high silicate porous glass consisting of about more than 95% of SiO2 is formed directly on a ceramic substrate (alumina substrate) 11. This substrate 11 is treated with acid after thermal treatment to obtain a substrate for a thermal head. If the substrate manufactured in this manner is used, printing can be performed with an insignificant electric power supply, and a thinner glazed layer 12 may have to be formed, if printing is to be performed with the same electric power supply. Subsequently, thermal isolation between dots is improved and lingering adverse thermal effect is reduced.
