PURPOSE:To change a damping force characteristic in three stages by disposing a damping force generating mechanism including a disc valve assembly with a small-diameter spacer interposed therebetween on the piston rod side end surface of a piston for partitioning the interior of a cylinder into two oil chambers. CONSTITUTION:A piston 6 for partitioning the interior of a cylinder 1 into two oil chambers A, B is mounted on one end of a piston rod 5. A bottomed concave portion 5D is formed on the piston rod 5 in such a manner as to direct from the forward end portion to the base end and an orifice passage 32 opened to the oil chamber A is mounted on the concave portion 5D. An extension side damping force generating mechanism 31 is disposed between a retainer fitted in a small- diameter portion 5A of the piston rod 5 through a guide member 15. The mechanism 31 comprises a disc valve assembly composed of discs 33A-33D, wherein the discs 33A, 33B are spaced from each other by a small-diameter spacer 34 having notch grooves 34A... formed on the inner peripheral edge. Orifices 35 are formed on the outer peripheral edge of the disc 33A to function as a variable throttle passage. |
