NEW MATERIAL:An optically active alcohol having silyl group or stannyl group at the gamma-position thereof selected from compounds expressed by formulae I-IV {R represents 1-10C (substituted)alkyl or (substituted)phenyl; A represents silyl expressed by formula V or stannyl expressed by formula VI [R<1>-R<3> represent 1-10C (substituted)alkyl or (substituted)phenyl]; excepting the cases wherein A represents stannyl in formulae III and IV}. USE:An intermediate for synthesis of various physiologically active substances. PREPARATION:trans-Allyl alcohol having silyl group or stannyl group at the gamma-position expressed by formula VII is oxidized with a hydroperoxide in the presence of both a titanium tetraalkoxide and an optically active diester of tartaric acid.
