PURPOSE:To reliably select the damping force with use of a compact motor, by providing a rotary valve rotatably engaged with a valve housing and adapted to be rotated by a stepping motor, which rotary valve has an oil passage communicatable with a second oil chamber. CONSTITUTION:When a stepping motor 41 is rotated at a predetermined angle according to a driving pulse, a pressure balance port 51 of a rotary valve 38 is brought into communication with a communication hole 53 of a valve housing 35, thereby communicating an oil passage in the rotary valve 38 with a second oil chamber 11b. When a rod 3 is axially moved relative to a cylinder 2, the oil is allowed to flow between a first oil chamber 11a and the second oil chamber 11b through the communication hole 53 and the balance port 51. The movement of the rod 3 is damped according to an opening degree of the communication hole 53 variable with the rotation of the rotary valve 38. The stepping motor 41 is used in the oil, and no seal is required between the oil chambers 11. Therefore, it may be smoothly rotated without sliding resistance, and a damping force may be reliably selected regardless of the compact motor. |
