NEW MATERIAL:Water-soluble disazo dyes of formula I [wherein X is halogen; Z is Cl, -OR<1>, -SR<1>, -O-R<2>-OR<2> or -S-R<2>-OR<2>; R<1> is a (hydroxyl, etc.-substd.)alkyl or alkenyl; R<2> is an alkylene; R<3> is a (hydroxyl-substd.)alkyl; Z is -CH=CH2, -CH2CH2Cl or the like]. USE:Water-soluble disazo dyes which can dye cellulose fiber or nitrogen-contg. fiber densely with good levelness and have excellent built up and fastness to light and chlorine, etc. PREPARATION:1mol. of 2,4-diaminobenzenesulfonic acid is condensed with 1mol. of a triazine compd. of formula II in an aq. medium to prepare a compd. of formula III. The compd. of formula III is diazotized and then coupled with 1mol. of a monoazo compd. of formula IV under alkaline conditions to obtain a monoazo dye of formula I.
