A piston for an internal combustion engine that utilizes combustion wave energy to drive an air chamber in the piston in resonance to transfer highly heated air with little or no unreacted fuel from the air chamber into thecombustion zone through a restricted gap during the entire combustion process includes a specific working end geometry, including the air chamber, that is mathematically related to the piston diameter, the geometry of the restricted gap, and the speed of sound in the air chamber at the autoignition temperature of the compressed charge in the working chamber. Specific air chamber and piston surface relationships are included.
|
