PURPOSE:To improve the orientation of molecules of an aimed polymer film and to reduce defects thereof, by polymerizing a molecular layer (monomolecular film) produced on a liquid surface, and then laminating the molecular layer onto a substrate, in the production of an organic film by the Langmuir-Blodgett method. CONSTITUTION:A molecular layer is formed on a liquid surface in a bath 1 by compressing (a movable barrier 2 is moved toward a fixed barrier 3) molecules of an organic material, and then this molecular layer is successively laminated onto a substrate S to form a film. At that time, the above molecular layer formed on the liquid surface is polymerized, and the polymerized molecular layer M' is laminated onto the substrate S. The above polymerization is carried out by irradiation of an ultraviolet ray to the molecular layer. As a light source for the irradiation with an ultraviolet ray, an excimer laser, a high-pressure or low-pressure mercury vapor lamp, etc. can be used.
