PURPOSE:To make it possible to know the smoothness of a shifting operation quantitatively, by evaluating the smoothness of the shifting operation on the basis of an impulse acting on a shift lever at the time of a second increase in a load. CONSTITUTION:A large load acts on a shift lever at the time of the periodical operations of a sleeve 4 and a gear spline 7 in a shifting operation and the subsequent thrusting-through operations of the sleeve 4 and a spline chamber of a synchronizer ring 9, and thereafter this load once decreases and then increases again at the time of the thrusting-through operations of the sleeve 4 and the spline chamfer of the gear spline 7. On the occasion, an impulse acting on the shift lever with this second increase in the load is determined. Based on the impulse acting on the shift lever at the time of the second increase in the load, accordingly, the smoothness of the shifting operation is evaluated, and thereby the smoothness of the shifting operation can be known quantitatively.
