PURPOSE:To simplify driving control of a movable sheave by providing a speed change changeover mechanism for relatively rotating a moving member of the variable speed pulley relative to a rotary shaft. CONSTITUTION:In order to bring a variable speed pulley into a high speed mode, a braking plate 35 is brought into contact with a friction plate 19a by a changeover lever 40, and the rotation of a screw member lg is braked, with t.e result that the screw member 19 is relatively decelerated relative to an input shaft 1 and screw-fed in the direction of a driving pulley 3, a movable sheave 6 approaches a fixed sheave 5, and the effective radius of the driving pulley 3 is increased. As a result, the rotation of the input shaft 1 is increased and transmitted to an output shaft 2. In order to bring the variable speed pulley into a low speed mode, a friction ring 33 is brought into contact with the friction plate 19a through a roller ball 38 and a pressure feed ring 32. Since the friction ring 33 is driven in the same direction as the input shaft 1 and in faster speed than that of the input shaft, the movable sheave 6 moves in the direction opposite to the fixed sheave 5, the effective radius of the driving pulley 3 is decreased, and the rotation of the output shaft 2 is decelerated. Thus, the driving mechanism of the movable sheave 6 can be simplified.
