PURPOSE:To obtain glass fiber free from mix of a metallic foreign material, by cutting glass fiber having minute diameter in the lengthwise direction and thereafter pulverizing it in the lengthwise direction and removing the metallic foreign material by means of solubilization with acid or attraction with magnetic force. CONSTITUTION:After cutting glass fiber having minute diameter of 1-15mum diameter to 2-10mm in the lengthwise direction with scissors or a cutter, it is charged into an automated mortar provided with a high-purity mortar such as agate or 'Sinterkorund(R)' and crushed under rotation in a constant time with a pestle while exerting static pressure. Then glass fiber having 30-40mum length is obtained by immersing this glass fiber into hot water to perform wet sieving. Thereafter this glass fiber is introduced into an acid soln. to remove a metallic foreign material, or both glass fiber 3 and water or alcohol 4 are introduced into a glass vessel 1 fitted with magnets 2 to the outside and agitated with a magnetic stirrer 5 and metallic powder 7 of magnetic substance is stuck on the magnetic stirrer 5 and the wall surface of the vessel 1. |
