PURPOSE:To provide the title polymer having specific physical properties, excellent in mechanical strength and chemical stability, and suitable for a packing for liquid chromatography or a membrane for separation, which polymer consists of specific monomer units having a hydrophobic group and specific crosslinking units. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophobic crosslinked polymer having such physical properties that the specific surface (SA) is: 30<=SA<=1,000ml/g and the solvent retention volume (SR) is: 0.2<=SR<=3.0ml/g consists of 100pts.wt. monomer unit derived from a monomer of the formula I wherein X is a group of the formula II, and Y is H or CH3 or a monomer of the formula I wherein X is a group of the formula III, and Y is the same as above or a monomer of the formula I wherein X is a group of formula IV, and Y is the same as above (R1 is a hydrophobic group having a hydrophobic fragmental constant of 1.5 or above) or 100pts.wt. constituent monomer unit derived from a mixture of other monomer unit and one of the above monomer units and 50pts.wt. or more crosslinking unit derived from a crosslinking agent having 2 or more ethylenic double bonds and/or acethylenic triple bonds. |
