PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical strength of a head by cutting glass guiding grooves at positions away from the track edges of track width regulating grooves so that the glass guiding grooves overlap the track width regulating grooves. CONSTITUTION:Glass guiding grooves 9 are cut at positions away from the track edges of track width regulating grooves 3, 4 so that the grooves 9 overlap the grooves 3, 4, and a nonmagnetic material 11 such as glass is filled into the grooves 9 when core blocks 10 are joined. The area of contact of the material 11 with each magnetic oxide substrate 1 is increased and the bonding strength is considerably improved. Since cracks extending to magnetic gaps during the formation of thin ferromagnetic metallic films 5 are blocked by the grooves 3, 4, false gaps are eliminated.
