发明名称 STRUCTURE FOR FIXING TERMINAL OF OPTICAL FIBER CORE
摘要 PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for using an adhesive agent and removing the front end of a liquid crystal polymer near a strand by caulking the liquid crystal polymer as a secondary coating material of an optical fiber core by means of a ring into a groove of a ferrule. CONSTITUTION:The front end of the liquid crystal polymer 1 as the secondary coating material of the optical fiber strand 5 subjected to primary coating is torn and is stripped from the primary coating material. The strand 5 is inserted into an insertion hole 4 of the ferrule 3. The stripped part at the front end of the liquid crystal polymer 1 is caulked by means of the ring 6 into the groove 2 of the ferrule 3, by which the optical fiber core and the ferrule 3 are fixed. Since the liquid crystal polymer 1 has a high modulus of elasticity in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber core, the greater part of the tensile or compressive force to be exerted on the optical fiber core acts on the part of the liquid crystal polymer 1 to be caulked by the ring 6 and the direct action thereof on the optical fiber strand 5 is prevented. The need for the laborious operations to pack the adhesive agent into the ferrule and to cut the liquid crystal polymer 1 near the optical fiber strand 5 is thereby eliminated.
