PURPOSE:To improve the durability of a magnetic layer by forming the magnetic layer contg. acicular of a ferromagnetic material, an org. high molecular compd. enclosing the grains and a photopolymn. initiator or the initiator and a photosensitizer on a nonmagnetic substrate and by radiating UV to cross-link and cure the magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:While a magnetic layer is formed on a nonmagnetic substrate by the simultaneous physical deposition of a ferromagnetic material and org. high molecular compd. or by the physical vapor deposition of the ferromagnetic material and the blowing of a gaseous monomer or oligomer of an org. compd. simultaneously, a photopolymn. initiator or the initiator and photosensitizer are simultaneously physically vapor-deposited or blown as gases. During or after the formation of magnetic layer, UV is radiated to form magnetic layer contg. acicular grains of the ferromagnetic material dispersed in the cross-linked org. high molecular compd. Since the degrees of cross-linking and polymn. of the org. high molecular compd. are sufficiently increased under control, the mechanical strength of the compd. is increased and the durability of the magnetic layer is improved.
