PURPOSE:To reduce the labor and time for input of characters carried out by users by designating the sizes of characters for each character type. CONSTITUTION:When a command is received from an input function 11 for change of character sizes, a character type-shaped character size designating function 13 gives an instruction to a display function 17 to display a screen for designation of character sizes for each of character types including KANJI (Chinese characters), HIRAGANA (cursive form of Japanese syllabary), KATAKANA (square form of Japanese syllabary), alphabets and numeric characters. Then a user uses the function 11 for input of characters and a character type identifying function 12 identifies the character types and informs the identified result to a character type-based character size converting function 14. The function 14 obtains the character sizes via the function 13 in response to the character types and converts characters into said sizes. A sentence editing part 15 receive the converted characters from the function 14 to store them in a sentence storing function 16. Then the sentences stored in the function 16 are displayed via a display function 17.
