PURPOSE:To control the transfer to glow discharge, by providing a trigger controlling means for variably regulating both the starting timing of preliminary discharge and the discharge intensity to the trigger circuit of a trigger electrode in a glow discharge generator. CONSTITUTION:When a gap G is ignited, capacitors C2L, C2R are charged via an inductance L1. Meanwhile since high electric field is generated between a cathode K and a trigger electrode T, preliminary discharge is caused between the cathode K and the surface of a glass pipe surrounding the trigger electrode T at some timing. This preliminary discharge is one kind of corona discharge caused in so-called ozonized discharge and weak discharge wherein the growth of current is limited by a dielectric material is generated at nearly uniform intensity in the lengthwise direction along the surface of the glass pipe. Initial electrons are formed in accordance with the generation of preliminary discharge, diffused and fed to the space between main electrodes K, A. |
