PURPOSE:To automatically execute an information gathering recording, and edition on an object of investigation by setting a portable recording medium on an information gathering and reproducing means, writing information from a center at a specific location on the medium, and reading specific reproduction items out of the medium. CONSTITUTION:A user who gathers information sets the portable recording medium (optical card) 11 on the information gathering and reproducing means 13 and requests the center to send desired information by making a communication with the center 12 through the means 13. When the information is sent from the center 12, the means 13 receives it and writes it at a specific location on the medium 11 according to its contents. Consequently, the information is edited automatically according to its contents and recorded on the medium 11. A user who reproduces the recording contents of the medium 11 sets the medium 11 on the means 13 and then indicates and inputs respective desired reproduction items. The means 13 reads information on the respective specific reproduction items out of the set medium 11 according to the input indication and outputs it, and the information on the respective reproduction items is edited and displayed on a display 133b or printed on a printer 132.
