PURPOSE:To improve the dispersibility and dispersion stability of magnetic powder and to provide high performance by incorporating a specified phosphoric ester into a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer contg. ferromagnetic alloy powder and a binder is formed on a nonmagnetic supporting body. The ferromagnetic alloy is an Fe-Al alloy contg. 0.5-20atom% Al and the binder contains a binder modified with at least one kind of polar group selected among sulfo, carboxyl and phosphoric acid groups. The magnetic layer further contains a phosphoric ester represented by formula I [where A is -OH, -OM (M is an alkali metal atom) or R- -O-CH2CH2O-n, R is 1-30C aliphat. residue and n>=6]. The ferro magnetic alloy powder is dispersed to a high degree and a high density magnetic recording medium having corrosion resistance and satisfactory electromagnetic transducing characteristics is obtd.
