PURPOSE:To perform the time control of a network without installing a dedicated facility or assistance, by utilizing a patrol packet being used generally in the network. CONSTITUTION:From a network managing station 1, the multiple address of packet specification is set, and the patrol packet is sent at a time t1, and reception stations 2 and 3 return the patrol packets on which their own station numbers are described to the network managing station 1. A reception station 4 describes a station number on the patrol packet received earlier, and transmits it to the network managing station 1 via a packet switching station 2. The packet managing station 1 calculates a mean in-network transmission time t3 from the reception time of the patrol packet returned from the packet switching station 4, and sets the time in which the mean in-network transmission time t3 is added on a present time t4 according to the route of a passing station number at the packet switching station 4 via the packet switching station 2. ln such a way, it is possible to fit the time of the network managing station 1 with that of the packet switching station 4.
