PURPOSE:To shorten the processing time with a picture processor by counting the emerging frequency of the block number in a prescribed area of a digital picture from a block number picture and calculating repetitively said counting process by hardware. CONSTITUTION:A frequency counting part 2 obtains a picture element of a designated color code from a color code picture A under the control of a control part 3 and then obtains a block number added to the picture element of a block number picture B corresponding to the picture element obtained from the picture A. Then the emerging frequency of said block number is counted to obtain a specific block where the picture element of the designated color code is included among those said blocks as well as the number of existing picture elements in said block. This process is repeated with successive change of designated color codes so that the number of color codes emerging in each block can be obtained.
