PURPOSE:To permit satisfactory maintenance of image stability by setting the effective magnetic brush density in a toner development region in a 0.3-0.7rho1 range with respect to the bulk density of carrier particles incorporated in the magnetic brush. CONSTITUTION:The effective magnetic brush density rho0 in the toner development region is set in the 0.3-0.7rho1 range with respect to the bulk density rho1 of the carrier particles incorporated into the magnetic brush. The magnetic brush of always the adequate density is, therefore, brought into contact with a latent image. Generation of a so-called, agent pool in the development region is thereby prevented and the image density is adequately maintained; in addition, the generation of abnormal images such as carrier adhesion and traces of bristle is prevented.
