NEW MATERIAL:A cyclohexyldecalin derivative expressed by formula I (R<1>-R<4> are 1-4C alkyl; R<5> and R<6> are 1-4C alkyl or H; m and n are integers of 1-4). EXAMPLE:2-Cyclohexyl-1,1,4,4-tetramethyldecalin. USE:A fluid for traction drive having traction coefficient at low temperature being within a good range as well as having reduced lowering of traction coefficient even at high temperature, a base for thermal medium or rust preventives or electric insulating oil, etc. PREPARATION:A 1,1,4,4-tetraalkyl-2,4-diphenyl-2-butanol derivative in which phenyl group may has alkyl group is subjected to ring closure in the presence of a dehydration catalyst to provide a compound expressed by formula II, which is then brought into contact with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I. |
