Device for adjusting the length of a seat belt, the latter normally being returned by suitable means so that a minimum so-called "active" length of belt grips the thorax of the user, the belt passing through passages in a return loop, characterised in that it includes means 30, 30' designed to allow it to be mounted on the said loop 12 and in that it includes a braking component 20 which can move elastically between a working position and a separated position, including a pinching bead 22, the elasticity of the braking component being such that in the working position the pinching bead 22 pinches the belt 10 against a support surface 23 made on the said return loop 12. <IMAGE>
