PURPOSE:To obtain magnetic powder which has sufficient magnetic force as a magnetic coating compd. and has an arbitrary color by coating magnetic powder grains with a resin and coating the surface thereof with a pigment. CONSTITUTION:Nickel powder 1 is used as the magnetic powder and a resin coating layer is formed thereon by adding a polyethylene resin 2 thereto and subjecting the powder to a surface treatment operation. The powder is then coated with the white pigment by adding the white pigment of titanium oxide 3 thereto. The pigment 4 of a desired color is thereafter added to the powder and is fixed onto the surface by which the chromatic magnetic powder is obtd. As a result, the magnetic powder itself has the color and, therefore, the magnetic coating compd. which maintains the bright color and has the sufficient magnetic force is obtd. simply by mixing the binder therewith without adding separately adding pigments thereto.
