PURPOSE:To prevent damage to a tray by providing a sensor which detects that a storage medium is placed on the tray and closing the tray at the time of placing the storage medium on the opened tray or after a prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:A tray 7 on which the storage medium should be placed is so formed that it can be loaded from and unloaded to a device body 8. A disk supporting projection is provided on the tray 7 and is provided with the sensor. A light emitting element and a light receiving element are provided under the tray 7. When a disk is placed on the tray 7, the sensor detects this state to close the tray 7. Though the disk is not placed, the sensor is operated to close the tray 7 after a certain time. When the closing operation is performed, an alarm is raised. Thus, the tray is prevented from being kept open.
