PURPOSE:To accomplish smooth control at the time of change in the operating range by calculating an amount with certain weighting according to the deviation of air-fuel ratio correction factor from the reference value, updating the study correction factor, and also making update in the adjoining study range when updating is performed in one study range. CONSTITUTION:When a control unit 1 judges under operation of an engine E that it is in normal operating condition, the peak value of air-fuel ratio correction factor calculated according to the output of an O2 sensor 3 shall undergo sampling, followed by reckoning of the mean value, and deviations from its means value are determined. Then the study correction amount corresponding to this deviation is scanned, and using this study correction amount, updating of study correction factor shall be made. Study ranges used are No.1 and No.2 wherein the dividing point is set dislocated from each other. To update by this study correction amount, updating shall be made even in the adjoining range when a certain range undergoes updating.
