PURPOSE:To control an exposure value without any influence of a bright part such as the sky by providing a shielding means to partially shield the photodetecting surface of an image pickup element, and using output from the element obtained in thus shielded state. CONSTITUTION:First blind 41 can be placed in two positions depending on the turning on/off action of a magnet 43. This means that a shutter device 4 shields the lower 40% part of the image pickup element 1 in its initial state, achieves the preliminarily exposure and photometry, and determines diaphragming and shutter speed. By turning on the magnet 43, the first blind 41 is made rotate to such a position as completely shielding the element 1, then the main exposure is started, and an electric current is made flow through a magnet 53 to release the locking of a second blind 51 by a locking member 54, so that the blind 51 rotates clockwise to shield the image pickup element 1 after the main exposure. In such a way, the main exposure is executed after shielding the part of view where luminance is in high value such as the apart of sky which is the preliminary exposure, and as a result, the exposure can be controlled highly accurately.
