PURPOSE:To obtain a foam outstanding in mechanical strength and adhesivity, by adding a thermally decomposable foaming agent to a metal ion-crosslinked ethylene copolymer, heating under pressure the resultant mixture to decompose said foaming agent followed by heating again under normal pressure to effect expansion. CONSTITUTION:A mixture prepared by adding to (A) 100pts.wt. of a polyolefin resin containing >=50wt.% of a metal ion-crosslinked ethylene copolymer (e.g., formed by intermolecularly crosslinking an ethylenemethacrylic acid copolymer with a metal ion such as Na or Zn), (B) 1-50pts.wt. of a thermally decomposable foaming agent (e.g., azodicarbonamide) is heated under a pressure >=100kg/cm<2> to sufficiently decompose the foaming agent B followed by cooling to normal temperature and resuming to normal pressure by releasing the pressurized state, then heating again to effect expansion, thus obtaining the objective crosslinked polyolefin foam capable of bonding to metals, etc. without any adhesive.
